Come and See The Lights by Flashguns
Sadly, I don’t quite want to
If you know me, you know I ‘lurve’ Flashguns - the mates perilously dragged to their lousily scheduled 2009 Underage Festival set and subjected to my hot* dancing skills can attest for that - but this track falls completely flat. I’m not 100% on board with the whining ”Oh-oh”s, which give the song a layer of vapid, 30 Seconds To Mars at the seaside-esque desperation. In previous songs, such as the glorious and underrated ‘Timehouse Blue’, a little lyrically simple longing (”I can’t live without you-hoo-whoah-oh, no / I got the Timehouse Blue-whoah-oh”) went a long way; in ”Lights”, the unecessarily reverb-drenched chorus of ”Come and see the lights with meeeeee, ohhhhhhhhh, oh please, girl, ohhhhhhhhhh” has all the charm and wit of a classroom wet dream
Better luck next time, lads
